LECTURE PRESENTATION: This course will address endodontics from a restorative point of view. Doing a root canal but destroying the tooth in the process does not achieve anything. Therefore, this course will take the participant on a journey that begins with endo-restorative concepts, then leads into access and three-dimensional ultrasonic cleaning. This will be followed by an introduction to the “Blend Technique” which combines both heat treated and non-heat treated rotary files and which utilizes each to their upmost efficiently. The course will conclude with an in-depth review of bioceramics in endodontics. This includes pulp caps, perforation repairs, endo-pedo, and obturation. After this course attendees will be able to:
· Develop a vision for successful endodontic therapy
· Recognize the multiple benefits of piezo-electric ultrasonics
· Understand that access is the key to successful instrumentation
· Differentiate between heat-treated and non heat-treated files
· Comprehend that the “Blend Technique” is intuitive in nature
· Recognize the myriad benefits of bioceramic technology
HANDS-ON SESSION*: This hands-on course is a natural follow-up to the previous day’s lecture, “Precision Based Endodontics.” The course will begin with a review of how to prevent the separation of rotary files. A brief review of the “Blend Technique” will follow and then Dr. Koch will do a hands-on demonstration. She will demonstrate how to properly use heat treated and non-heat treated files rotary files (the Blend Technique) as well as demonstrating the best way to use bioceramic technology. Following her demonstration, attendees are encouraged to practice the various techniques and Dr. Koch will personally work with each individual at the hands-on. In this course attendees will:
· Understand what causes the separation of rotary files
· Recognize how to instrument difficult anatomical challenges
· Identify the benefits of piezo-electric ultrasonic application
· Use the “Blend Technique”
· Be introduced to the ease and importance of bioceramic technology
· Review the meaning of an “Endo-Restorative Continuum”
*HANDS-ON SESSION REPEATED IN AFTERNOON.
